Stella Built a House with Arckit

If you have a young builder on your list or a budding architect, then I have a toy for you.

I was sent Arckit GO Colors to review. It was nominated for Best Construction Toy of the Year by the Toy Industry Association.

Arckit Go

What is it? It’s a creative, free form model making system that opens the world of architecture to everyone. It’s a fun way to learn design skills using large floor plates and easy “click and connect” components make this perfect for budding architects.

Well, it was really for Stella, she loves to build. She couldn’t wait, she loves to have houses for her small toys.

When she opened it the first thing she was thrilled about was that all the pieces came in a big ziptop bag, she didn’t have to worry about them getting lost. (Great thinking in the packaging department.)

Kraus House Mom

The instructions are all illustrated, step by step.

I’m not going to lie, she got stuck on some parts. That was because she wasn’t paying close enough attention to which pieces she was using.

Once she realized she was using the wrong piece (a four block instead of a three block) she was good to go. She had the house together in less than an hour.

There are interactive directions on the website (which I suggested she look at) but she wanted nothing to do with it. She was going to figure it out on her own.

It is kind of a challenge to get the ceiling for the first floor on, it takes patience, but she got it done.

Kraus House Mom

She was thrilled to have a new house for her room.

The age suggestion is 10+ and Stella is 8, if it can be built, she’ll get it done.

Stella says she wants a to build an entire neighborhood.

Stella’s Soccer Day

Well after weeks of asking, Saturday was the first day of soccer for Stella.

She had been saying how she needed money (especially after the Tooth Fairy visited Maizie) and she NEEDED some dollars because her piggy bank was feeling light.

You see, my dad gives her a dollar for every goal she scores or if she makes a good move, this is her motivation.

She’s not just in it for the money, she laughs the entire time she’s out there; unless this one particular kid is in her way (she just doesn’t like him).

Frankly I think she likes the attention, there are six people cheering her on.

Saturday morning, she got up and couldn’t wait to get dressed.

I pull her together and then it’s the dilemma of what hairstyle am I going to wear?

Should I wear one ponytail, two ponytails or braids, every week it’s a challenge (she has even had me redo her hair because she didn’t like a style). She went with braids.

As I was getting ready I could hear her talking to Maizie and Teddy. She was telling them what they had to yell while she was playing. She wanted them to yell, “Go, go Stelly! Kick that ball!” I then heard Teddy inform her that he was not going to be yelling that (He did).

She takes this seriously.

We get there, sort through the chaos, and then she finally picks a field (she was dying to start kicking her ball) and she starts practicing.

She kept kicking the ball into the empty goal, I think she thought they were going to count toward her grand haul (they didn’t).

I put her shirt on her and it’s like she’s playing in a dress, she doesn’t care; she got a game to play.

She ended her day with a total of two dollars, a pink frosted doughnut and a Gatorade; she was quite satisfied.

How Stella is Like a Hollywood Has-Been

I wrote this about Stella two years ago. It is still true today.

Every little girl has a little diva inside them, but Stella is a Big Diva (in so many ways). There are times she reminds me of a starlet that has lost her Hollywood glow.

She gets in the tub with all her jewelry on and doesn’t realize it. Seriously, necklace, bracelet, headbands, you name it then she looks at you with an Oops face and starts to giggle.

She makes unreasonable demands.

She wanted to sit on top of the two stools.

She wakes up in the morning looking like she’s been on a week-long bender. Come to think of it, once you brush her hair she looks like that after 10 minutes.

No pants and one cowboy boot…enough said!

This is how she wakes up looking 85% of the time.

She still gets this excited over marshmallows.

She wants fame. She’s always wants me to take her picture and post it. Now she (and Teddy want to be You Tube stars). I can just imagine the stuff they would post because I know the stuff Ted won’t let me post.

I find her passed out on her floor.

I frequently find her on the floor, a few times she’s been under the bed.

She can go days eating like a bird, then binge like she’s going to the chair.

Some of her outfits could get her on the “What were they thinking” list.

A Stella-Blue original

Sunglasses have become her signature look.

She causes public scenes.

She needs her beauty rest.

Do not disturb

She calls everyone by the same name, Bubby. She’s too cool to use Dahling.

What do you think, is she a diva?

Happy Birthday Stella-Blue!!!

Minecraft Explosion

It started as a normal situation, Teddy and Stella got into a fight. Nothing new, it happens seven to eight times a day (with three kids, there’s always an argument over something).

This one was over one of Teddy’s light sabers. He came downstairs all in a lather saying Stella broke one of his light sabers. He said she grabbed it and broke it. It was in two pieces, but it was able to be slid back into place. He was all worked up because it “wasn’t the same anymore”.

Stella is known for grabbing things, so I was pretty miffed about this whole incident. I called her into the room and was ready to tear into her. Then she fills in the rest of the story…

Teddy held out the light saber for her to hold on to as he tried to lift her. Poor judgment on both of them.

I confronted Teddy with my new found information, which he had no choice but to admit his part in the terrible decision. I told him it was just as much his fault as it was Stella’s.

He wasn’t happy.

A few minutes later, Stella came running done stairs in tears.

“Teddy blew up my world!”

She has an array of Mi World shops in her room and I thought that was what she was talking about.

I couldn’t have been more wrong! (It took me a few minutes to figure out what happened.)

All three of the kids have there Minecraft world linked up on their tablets. Well, Teddy went into Stella’s world and set off a whole lot of TNT and blew up a bunch of her stuff.

Working together, a rare sight!
Working together, a rare sight!

Man was she upset. She was crying about not being able to get her animals back in their pen.

This is where my parenting skills are lacking because I started laughing and couldn’t keep a straight face (I tried SO hard). So I told her we need to go take this problem to Daddy.

This conversation went on for twenty minutes about how what happened with Stella and the light saber was an accident, but what Teddy did was on purpose and that was a big difference.

It was just another weekend in the Kraus House.

Stella’s Leprechaun Trap

I keep a list of ideas for You Tube on a white board near my desk. A few weeks ago I wrote a bunch of St. Patrick’s Day and Easter ideas on it. Included on the list was a Leprechaun trap.

Kraus House Mom
Stella’s trap made of pure imagination and determination

Stella read it, asked what it was, and flipped out. She was spewing out ideas like an erupting volcano. She couldn’t wait to build a trap. This was right up her alley. Especially once she found out once you catch a Leprechaun he has to give you his gold. Besides building, she is also a big fan of money.

If there is something to be created or built, Stella is your girl.

Kraus House Mom
Putting on the finishing touches

Last weekend I took a nap. When I woke up, she had come up with a plan, gathered her materials and built her trap. She planned out how to lure him and how to trap him.

She even found out that a Leprechaun is about the same weight as an apple. So, when she made her stairs she made sure they could hold his weight by field testing them…she put an apple on the stairs to see if the would hold up. They did.

Now all she has to do is wait for St. Patrick’s Day and see if her trap worked. I did make sure to tell her that they are very tricky and hard to catch.

Here’s Stella presenting her trap to the world…look out Leprechauns!

Good luck Stella-Blue!

Stella’s Loose Tooth

Let’s begin this “event” on Friday…
Stella had a loose tooth (her first one) and it makes me kind of sad that my tiny baby was about to lose her first tooth. But, so it goes. In true Stella-Blue fashion this event wasn’t without a strange conversation and reasoning on her part.
I told her she should keep wiggling her tooth so it would come out over the weekend. I can’t stand wiggly, dangly teeth. I just want to pull them right out, but Ted won’t let me. She was not completely thrilled with the idea of her tooth coming out. Don’t get me wrong, she is definitely up for the money; she has been known to steal it from her brother.
Here’s our chat…
Me: You should wiggle that tooth so it falls out this weekend.
Stella: I don’t think I want it to fall out.
Me: Why not? It doesn’t hurt.
Stella: I still want to be able to suck my thumb.
Me: (Looking perplexed) What do you mean? You’ll still be able to suck your thumb. Even though being 5 you should probably lay off that a bit.
Stella: I can’t once they fall out because then I’ll get buck teeth. I definitely don’t want buck teeth.
Me: Why are you so concerned about having buck teeth?
Stella: I don’t want to end up looking like a beaver.
Me: (Trying not to laugh at her) So you’re not going to have your teeth fall out, EVER?
Stella: Nope! I’m going to be an old lady with wiggly teeth that can still suck her thumb.
Me: Well, we can see how that goes.
Now onto Saturday…
The tooth was still there, so I bought apples at the store. Teddy and I were on our way home and I get a call.
Ted: I’ve got good news and bad news.
Me: (Knowing this could go either way, I brace myself) What is it?
Ted: Good news is, Stella lost her first tooth. Bad news is, Maizie kind of knocked it out.
I was only down the street and by the time I got home her mouth had been cleaned and the tooth was recovered. There’s nothing worse than trying to find an itty, bitty tooth on the floor.
Upon further investigation, it seems that Stella and Maizie were playing with a rope (which was taken away earlier in the day because they were fighting over it) and Stella had the rope in her mouth. What did Maizie do? She yanked it out of course, along with the tooth. I must say, she saved me a whole heap of aggravation of trying to convince Stella to let me get the tooth out.
The Tooth Fairy is free to come ($5 for the first one).
Right into her piggy bank

Time to Make the Donuts

Stella got a Cool Baker Donut Maker for Christmas and was all gung ho about making them, unfortunately I was the final victim of the stomach bug that took out every last one of us and it got me on Christmas day; so Stella had to wait a few days until I could deal with the mixing, forming, and endless questions that would go along with this donut making experience.

Days of asking and she finally gets to make them

I finally decided it was time to make the donuts (if she asked again I was going to lose my mind). I looked at the box, no bake. Well this just brightened my day, until I opened it and saw that I had to put EVERYTHING together. But before I could do that, I had to wash everything (definitely not one of my favorite household tasks to begin with). Much to my surprise I put it together lickety split. We’re ready to make donuts.
Seriously, all Stella had to do (I say Stella because she insisted on making them) was put water into the mix and stir. I was impressed.

Seriously, it was just add water

Stella insisted on doing it all herself

Then she had to load it into the donut plunger thing, once again easy. Stella squeezed the donuts into the molds and then the hard part…waiting the 15 minutes for them to set.

Into the fridge

Let the torture begin!

Teddy can’t wait to try them

Now I have to clean this thing again? I didn’t sign up for this. The donut goo was so thick that it came out quite easily, yeah me!!
It was 15 minutes of pure torture for Stella and her hungry customers (Teddy and Maizie). When the timer went off, I knew there would be no chance of naked donuts (I tried selling them on the idea…don’t you want them right now?).

They’re ready to be frosted

Next, onto mixing the frosting, once again just add water. I loaded it into the plunger (I didn’t want frosting in the grout of the table) and Stella Van Gough got to work.

Frosting was just as easy

Working on her masterpieces

Viola!! Ready to eat (in one bite)
I didn’t think Teddy was going to be able to stand the wait. They finally got to eat the masterpieces, all three of them. They said they were good; I’ll take their word for it.
P.S. This was not sponsored in any way, this was just another adventure in the Kraus House.
