I am the lucky mother of three tweens. I can’t believe that I hit the tween lottery. They are 10, 11 and 12 (girl, boy, girl). I’m not getting out of this stage anytime soon.
It seems I know so many ways to ruin their day. It can be done with very little effort on my part. I don’t even have to move most of the time.
I HAVE THE POWER!!!!
Let me let you in on the secret…
- Ask how their day was
- Wake them up in the morning
- Clean their room
- Fold their laundry
- Tell them dinner is ready
- Not know where they left their stuff
- Ask for help
- Don’t immediately replace all the food they just ate (the food you bought two days ago)
- Ask what they’re doing
- Knock on their door
- Don’t let them stay home by themselves
- Ask them to make sure the shower curtain is INSIDE the tub before the turn on the shower
- Ask them to dry off they floor when they don’t fix the shower curtain
- Remind them to get a towel before they get in the shower so they don’t have to yell for one
- Glance in their direction
- Don’t let them sit in the front seat
- Ask them to do the same thing for the fifth in a row (like put on deodorant)
- Request they put down their devise
- Make them go to bed
Some days are better than others. There are days that they all get along and then there are days that I just shut my bedroom door and don’t come out until they’ve all calmed down.
The tween years started two years ago and I still have three more to go. Then while I’m still dealing with the tween years, the teen ones will be underway.
I hope I make it through.
Anyone else neck deep in tween drama?
Yup, that sounds about right. My oldest is 13 (almost 14) and all I have to do is look at him to set him off. It’s super fun around here LOL.
This too shall end one day not anytime soon but we be day. Enjoy each stage the best you can.
What? Make them put down their devices? You are so mean-just kidding of course. They will thank you later.
That’s the toughest age, but hanging in and keeping an eye on them eventually pays off. Enjoy!
So true! I just have one tween girl, but sometimes it feels like I have like 10 in the house with her attitude. I mean, geez. So sorry I looked at you funny and asked how you were doing.

I think the fairly immediate replacement of food applies to all ages. I can’t say that I experienced most of the rest.
Ah, being a middle school teacher, I can definitely see how adults can ruin their day without even trying. It’s tough to raise kids especially if they’re moody.
Ha ha, I’m approaching the “tween” stage very soon and I know this is all coming! My son is 9 and already has attitude!
Haha yup I can remember all those things being awful when I was younger – strange how we would love to have those days back.

Ruining a tween’s day is way too easy. Simply existing as a parent can often ruin a tween’s day lol!
I really enjoy reading this post. This is so true! It’s like teen drama is never ending.
Lol this cracks me up! Giving me flashbacks of myself at that age
My son is on the cusp of tweenhood and already I have started ruining his day with some of these things LOL. This was a very funny post.
Ha ha. I’m pretty good at ruining my teen & tweens day without even trying. Who knew being a parent would be so hard LOL!
This really made me laugh! It reminded me of my own tween years and how silly I was about things.

I don’t even have kids but I can relate to this post, LOL! My nieces and nephews are in the tween stage and they are all big balls of hormones! HA

I’m right there with you. I have 4: 13(boy), 11(girl), 11(girl) and 10(boy). I ruin their day almost every day lol
I laughed all the way through this list. I have experienced ruined days with two already.
An interesting note to take away for the future. I don’t have kids but I can see how those questions could become annoying to them. But as they get older they will understand it was all love. 🙂

Haha thank you for sharing! Relating to this post I remember always getting frustrated when my mom would do some of those things. I guess it is just a phase.. Good luck!
GREAT timing on this post. Our boys are in their tweens and it’s interesting to watch them interact… and gobble down items we JUST purchased from the grocery store within seconds. I need all the tips I can get these days.
I don’t have kids of my own but I’ve dealt with nephews and nieces growing up! They can really drive you mad and I’m not even their parent. I can only imagine what moms and dads have to go through!
I dont have kids but I took notes!
I don’t think anyone is going to argue this. It is pretty spot on.
Oh this is so the truth. Tweens are a pretty volatile breed.

Such a funny post. I’m so glad I don’t have a tween. I don’t know if I would have the patience to deal with one. Even the air is a motive for them to get annoyed.
#18 will make them lose their minds. Well if this is just the pre-teen years…the teen years will be worst!
There could be a thousand ways to ruin tweens day. These are clever ideas. I was laughing out loud while reading.
I have 8 kiddos, one is a tween, 3 are teens…so I’m getting skilled at this art. Fun article!
WOah, i did not know 🙂 thank you for sharing this knowledge. it was funny 🙂 i Enjoyed reading it
Haha, love this. Maybe try texting them instead of talking to them haha!
Hahahaha too funny!!!! Kids get annoyed with pretty much anything! Say hi to them and it ruins there day lol
Asking how their day was is definitely a no, no. I often will stay quiet with my son until he speaks to me first. Lol
Now this is too funny I have three teenagers and I know very well about all of this!!
Let the eye rolling begin ! Bless you mama – the trifecta!! Somehow tho, the Love sleeps through and all they’ll remember is how much you care. ❤️

Love these! I can’t wait to ruin my tweens day this summer 🙂
LOL my kids are 4 and 6. They are still young, but sometimes these things annoy them too when I do it. But they are less demanding, I guess. I better be ready when they do.
